Hail Holy Queen: Almost Forgotten?
Modern generations nowadays continues to improve. And along with this “new world”, modern music also starts to develop. And these things influence the community especially to the teenagers, and it drag them away from God.
Why did I say it? Because you can observe now, the hymns and songs inside the mouth of teenagers are “Why you ganna be so rude…”,”Let it go, let it go…” , “’Cauze all of me, loves all of you…” and other songs, but if you let them sing the Hail Holy Queen, or the Salve Regina, they are speechless. Why do they choose to love the new songs and even others are slut songs, but when it comes to the religious songs, especially to the Salve Regina, they don’t know it, when they are so expert in other songs?
I chose to tackle it in this section because when I went to Church a while ago, I had observed that during the singing of Salve Regina (because there was a novena that needs to sing the Salve Regina), almost all of the people, especially the youth didn’t sing. The elders only sang the hymn. I also chose to tackle about the Salve Regina because this song is the traditional song for Mary here in Bohol, and I am so disappointed that today, it slowly fades away.
I want to revive this almost fading tradition. Below is the lyrics of the Salve Regina song. It is a Catholic song, and a tribute song to Mary, the mother of God. We don’t worship her in this song. We just honor her because of her great faith and dependence and being holy and pure to God.
